The idea of rough theatre itself relates to our lives in 6x1
in many ways. From the cardboard sets we created to even the live “performance”
we took part in during the secondary sensory element of the Bolex long-take.
The Bolex long-take, I believe, relates to rough theatre the
most because of the spontaneity of it all. In plays, actors on stage only get
one chance per showing to get their part right. During the long-take, we only
got one chance to get it right while the film was rolling. There was no
deleting of the footage and starting over. We rehearsed our movements a few
times, made sure the timing was right…and then that was it. We even had some technical
difficulties during it, as the camera was unfamiliar to us all, we ended up
getting a shot of either the ground or the sky (it’s hard to tell) at the very
beginning, which took away from our total time left to film.
